In Ibiza, where you stay will make as much of a difference as where you play. If you’re looking to stay right in the middle of the action, then Ushuaia Beach or Ushuaia Tower are an absolute must, with parties running every night at the peak of the season. Es Vive has been around for a while, but is constantly changing and evolving every year. The rooms are crisp and modern, and their in-house club is totally sound-proofed, so it’s up to you whether you want to call it a night or keep it going way into the next day.
New art project-come-boutique hotel, Urban Spaces, has already made something of a name for itself this year too, thanks to its signature style and totally unique concept – this place really is what Ibiza’s all about.
If you’re looking for pure luxury, then you can’t go far wrong with a suite at The Gran – this is one keycard you’ll want to be flashing at any opportunity and it’s known for being a hangout for the islands wealthiest of hotel guests. You can also stay ahead of the game and book into another one of Ibiza’s new kids on the block Destino, from the guys behind Pacha, which boasts incredible views to Ibiza Old Town. Of course there are also plenty of opportunities to retreat from the party, including the stylishly idyllic Atzaro spa, and Sa Talaia in Benimussa – a personal favourite.
Don’t be tempted to spend your days in your room nursing a hangover, daytime in Ibiza can be just as fun as the nights. Jockey Club in Ses Salinas and El Chiringuito on Es Cavallet beach have been around for a while now and have earned a solid reputation for being two of the hippest beach clubs to hang in the daytime. We highly recommend indulging in a little champagne sangria and sitting back to people watch.
If you want a more luxurious feeling, Amante is indulgence at its very finest and offers a very sophisticated place to see and be seen. Perched on a cliff and set in a lush country setting, this is a great spot for long, daytime lunches and sun-soaking on their luxurious day beds.
Blue Marlin has been around for a good while now, and its reputation precedes it for a very good reason – if beach clubs are your thing then Blue Marlin is an Ibiza must. This year also sees the world-famous Nikki Beach open its first venue in Ibiza and it’s set to become one of the hottest destinations on the island, so it’ll be worth getting your bookings in quick.
Party into the morning
One thing is for certain, you won’t be short of places to party on your trip and there are some really amazing new parties on the Ibiza calendar. Loco Dice Used and Abused at Ushuaia Tower is bringing a whole new concept to the island with this year, along with a host of other new parties at Playa Den Bossa’s newest (and free!) venue. Solomun has also started his new Sunday parties at Pacha, whilst Sankeys continues to be just as much a hit with the locals as it is with the tourists. Of course we can’t fail to mention Danny Whittle’s new club Bomba, which has opened to much hype and features residencies from some of Ibiza’s longest standing parties, including the likes of Defected. But of course, whilst there’s plenty of new parties to excite you this year, you can’t go wrong with some of the island’s all-time favourites. Circo Loco at DC10 is always a crowd pleaser if you’re willing to go hard on a Monday and nights such as Cocoon at Amnesia, Carl Cox and We Love Music at Space, and F*** Me I’m Famous at Pacha continue to be rammed throughout the summer. Don’t forget the smaller and more authentic venues too, though – Underground is a real gem of a place, and newer venues such as Plan Be continue to grow in popularity as the season continue – here, at these more intimate venues, is where you’ll be likely to find the real Ibiza veterans.
The restaurant scene in Ibiza is booming at the moment, and tables at the hottest joints can be like gold dust. Cipriani’s Downtown and Lio have held the title as being Ibiza’s newest and hottest places to get a reservation for a while now, and tables go for big bucks. Newly opened Ushuaia Tower’s steakhouse, Montauk, comes from the brains behind Hawksmoor and Pitt Cue, and has brought something fresh and new to Ibiza’s dining scene with meat carefully selected from the very best producers of Spanish Basque, British Longhorn and Nebraskan Black Angus, as well as a great selection of fish and lobster. Es Boldado also offers up an unrivalled romantic location with views overlooking the mystical rock of Es Vedra and is the perfect setting when you’re looking for an air of romance. Personal favourites also include The Fish Shack, close to Talamanca and totally rural, and Bambuddha Grove, which serves up totally delicious Asian fare in a gorgeous setting.
My absolute must
If you only do one extravagant thing on your trip, make sure you keep a day free to charter a boat to take you over to Formentera, Ibiza’s most beautiful and less chaotic neighbouring island. Moor up in its crystal-clear waters or go inland and sample one of its many restaurants. One thing’s for certain, you’ll quickly fall in love with its idyllic setting.
